The throttle controls that came with my engine are way to long for what i need, and i dont want them crammed in the back of the boat. Has anyone ever shortend theres? Is it fairly easy job, would i be able to re-use everything or is some going to get ruined while dismantling? I know i can buy new ones , but im trying to save a buck or two! Thanks guys...

Too long control cables are way less of a problem than you think!

First, the cables need to be about 3 feet longer than the measurement from control box to transom plus from corner of transom to center of engine. The reason is that there needs to be a loop of cable in the splash well to allow enough slack for cables to function properly. Too short a cable will bind and not throttle up or shift properly.

If the cables are WAY too long, just throw in an extra loop under the gunwale and secure it snug but not too tight with plastic zip ties. The loop should be at least 18 inches in diameter.

Control cables and steering cables can NOT be modified by shortening.
