Is contact cement generally the same compound across brands? Im throwing on my new carpet tonight and can only find Lepage contact cement here. Anyone know if this is ok to use?

Is it the Heavy Duty solvent based or the low odor latex base?

It's the solvent based one: http://lepageproducts.com/ProductDetail.aspx?pid=90

If this is ok to use.. What's the best method for applying? Trowel? Is it totally unmoveable after contact or can you adjust the carpet if it's off line?

Suggestions are greatly appreciated. Tackling this in the next hour.

Thanks

Don't count on being able to move it. Ever :) The instructions conclude:

Position materials carefully since bonding is immediate and parts cannot be repositioned.

Pretty much what GWPSR said ^^^^

You may be able to shift it a little with the roller, but not much... and if you try to remove the carpet and reposition it you'll probably pull the backing off of the carpet.

Your best bet would be to practice with the smaller pieces first before tackling the large areas, this way you can get a feel for what has to happen and a little experience.

The solvent based cement is good.

No. Contact cement is for installing formica.

Go to Home Depot or Lowes or a quality carpet store and get mastic specially approved for marine carpet.

And rent a heavy steel roller used to install vinyl flooring--to get the bubbles out of your carpet and get 100% contact with the glue. (I didn't do that when I last installed pontoon carpet.)

Use the contact cement but don't folllow all the instructions. Put it down and put the carper on while its still wet, then you can move around a little. If you let it dry as the instructions say once its stuck your all done.

I'll bet it looks good now eh?

This hand held roller (red rollers) will do the same thing for about $35 and it's yours to keep afterward, it applies 150 psi to the carpet when used correctly.
