Thanks for the input concerning the power steering cooling question. Now for another. Is it possible to replace the valve guide seals without pulling the heads. I have heard that working one cyl at a time, positioning the piston at the top of its stroke will prevent dropping a valve. if this is true, is it possible to remove the old seal and install a new one?

Yes, very doable.
I recall a discussion not to long ago, do a search and see what comes up. Theres a few different methods of doing it. I prefer the air method.

pressurize the cylinder via the spark plug hole to hold valve in position

Penny:
When you use the air method, you use a air compressor
to pump air consistently in the cyl. (80#+) When the air is
on take a rubber mallet and put a socket over the valve retainer and smack the socket (not real hard)to help break loose the keepers.(Make sure the rocker arm is off first) Then you will need a spring compressor, you can get it at a auto parts store.
Compress spring down and remove keepers off the valve. Make sure you cover oil drain holes in the head. There small and can fall in the block.I found after the spring is compressed use a magnet to remove keepers. When reinstalling after a new valve seal is installed put the compressed spring back on the valve stem.Put grease on the keepers and install them back on the valve stem. This will keep them from falling off. Next if you used a screw type compressor lift the spring up to the valve keepers tight and decompress the spring.Keepers should be down in retainer tight.
If it looks good smack the valve stem with the air on yet to seat keepers in retainer.Remove air. :D
