Lifting Ring - 1984 115hp VRO

I'm improvising a lifting ring for this motor. Does anyone know the size of bolts required for the the bolt holes on top of the flywheel. Not even sure if they would be metric or sae. 1/4" inch slips into 2-3 threads as does an 8M-1.25. However, I'm not wanting to use a wrench on either until I'm reasonably certain about the right size. The shop manual isn't any help on this one.

They are 5/16-NF threads.

Came across two threads on the net. Both are saying that the bolt size is 5/16" - 24 Thread (Fine) and say the bolts should be grade 8.
