light switch

My dash lights and bow/stern lights are controlled by one switch on my 98 bass tracker. Sometimes they will not work but most of the time they work, when they don't work the light on the switch will not come on either. Any ideas of what it could be. I have removed all of the connects on the back of the switch and they seem to be secure and snug. I have also replaced the fuse in the fuse panel for the lights.

Re: light switch

Sounds like you might have some corrosion inside the switch that is not allowing contact sometimes.

If that is what it is, about the only solution is to replace it..I would use a switch designed for a marine environment, as they are more water resistant, but they can still get corrosion in them after a long usage period.

Re: light switch

When you replace the switch I suggest moving the gauge lights off the present switch and connect them to the key switch. This will cause the gauge lights to operate wile the engine is running, warming them up and evaporating any moisture that may be in them.

Do you know the brand of the switch, and the type?
