I suggest taking a safe boating coarse. A lot of states will not allow you on the water without taking this course. I agree with that, not because you are automatically a bad boater, but because there are a lot of bad boaters out there and the course will teach you the safe way of boating.

Good Luck

lights

I recently aquired my first boat and although i do not plan to operate it at night, it did come with these removable type lights that are battery powered they have a suction cup on the bottom one has a green and red lense the other is just white what is the correct way to mount them? is there a site I can go to that gives regulations concerning this? Ron

Re: lights

The red/green light mounts on the bow (front) of the boat. From the driver's seat, the red lense faces left (port) and the green faces right (starboard). The clear light is an all-around light that should be visible 360 degrees. It can be mounted on the stern (rear) of the boat, or on the roof/windshield to get the required visibility.

Re: lights

It is common practice to use the red/green bow light when underway, but acceptable to light only the 360-white while anchored to save battery and to display your status.

I agree with the Safe Boating Course idea. It will also teach about other required equipment for your size boat, and it is not expesive nor complicated - rather fun for the most part. Look up a Power Squadron Unit or government agency in your state.

I wish you fun and safe boating.
