I keep my boat clean. As a result, I tried Armorall on the brand new seats...Figured it cut down on the UV damage. BIG MISTAKE!
I took the boat out to Alva river today, to try out a new gauge I installed under operating conditions. It was quite windy, thanks to Hurricane Michelle brushing the east coast. I am on the SW coast, but we still had some 20-30MPH gusts.
Well, after parking the truck,I hopped-off the dock, boarded, and fired-up the engine. I then (still tied-up) turned, and went to move one of the two fuel tanks. I braced myself on the seat.....Zzzzip..The hand went south, I went down, but not until pushing the throttle into gear, and half thorottle.
I killed it,but what a ride. And what a bruise to pride.
Armoral, like alchohol and water don't mix.

You guys make a point - armorall does make the seats a little slick, but I use it about once a month on my seats in my bass boat. After 4 years my seats still look fairly new. I guess it's like anything else - you have to take the bad with the good. I chose to protect my seats from the UV-rays. There may be a better product for this - if anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears. Thanks. :)

Armoral is great stuff if you use it sparingly. A friend of mine was in one of those mechanical bull riding contest doing pretty good. He got a spot in the finals. The day he was to go was the day he detailed his 68 Barracuda. This involved Armoral on his seats. He was bragging on how much he had to use to get the shine and gloss even. Needless to say how comical it was watching him trying to stay on that bull. He Lost Big Time, but the seats in his car look good!

Try plain old baby oil, works great, cheap too.

when i built my last boat .. i had the seats upholstered.. i gave him the epoxy treated marine plywood an he did the rest .. foam & marine vinul..

anyways,, he told me ,, infacticaly,, DO NOT USE ARMMORAL ...!! all it is ,, is butter on a turkey.. it makes uv worst,,plus it dries out the vinul cause of the silicone..

only use 'formula 2000 '

so i do.. so far ,,so great..!!

Stay away from Armorall. Clean your seats with a little Dawn or simple Green in warm water. Isopropyl alcohol is also good. The vinyl already has UV stabilizer in it.

I armoralled the seats in my last boat. Decided to take the family out fishing. I launched the boat and waited for everyone to finish the before trip potty break. First comes my daughter, hops in the boat on the seat down she goes. Next comes my son, hops in the boat on the seat down he goes. Next up is my wife, hops in the boat on the seat down she goes. The family dog who has been patiently waiting on the dock, hops in the boat on the seat, down he goes. Friends,, I am not sure what the universal term for this is but i would call it a good ol fashioned DOG PILE. Bottomline, if you are going to use the boat, watch the armorall useage.

Jeeze, I scrub a little Armor All into my boat's blue carpeting to make the color deeper and glossier. Makes clean up easier too. I'll admit it is a little slick but my boat's so small it's hard to fall down in, Ha! The cooler slides all over the place though. Who makes Formula 2000?

You said you were there to "get back on your feet"? How'd that work out? LOL!

I used to have a Monte Carlo w/red vinyl interior, bench seat. I kept it really shiny for those "opportunity corners" while out on dates ;) .

i read this last time, but got to lmao all over again. and crabbie, i felt bad for you, but it was funny as hell. of course, at the time, i bet no one was laughing - just woke up, smack your butt on hard floor, not good for a start to the day. i can guarantee if it'd been me, my wife would've laughed enough to need oxygen.

i use black magic's 'tire wet' on my seats, anyone know if that's ok to use?

I used it on a steering wheel once. Yep once!

I also stopped using it on my current car. It makes the dash so shiny it reflects in the windshield and I can't see.

The cleaner was a really good product. I used it on my Dad's old vinyl roof on his car. That and a scrub brush got so much dirt out, we finally saw the real color of the roof.

They make an Armorall product that doesn't leave your vinyl oily. I think its called "armorall interiors". I use it in my car interior and it doesnt make the dash quite so oily. It might work well for boat seats as well.. I would use all the UV protection I could get if I had new seats.

I used to show my Harley. I polished and shined the heck out of it. Before I got the leather Corbin (with flames of course)I Armor-alled my seat. OH MY GOD! DO NOT ARMOR-ALL YOUR MOTORCYCLE SEAT! As I left my driveway I was thinking it was a little slick... the very first light I let out the clutch and just about went off the back. It must of looked like I was trying to do a superman impression with my feet sticking out the back like that. Being the sport I am I've talked many people into armor-alling thiers since! :p

When I was about 14, my brother gave me $20 to wash his truck. I thought I was being so nice, armoral the dash, seat, steering wheel, PEDALS.... you get the point.

Once he got to the end of the drive way, he had to take a hand full of dirt and rub over the pedals and wheel just so he could drive it.

A slick brake pedal puts your foot right on the lil skinny "go" pedal :)

Re: Like Life?? Don't Armorall your boat seats!

In 1977, at the age of 16, I am the proud owner of my first motorcycle: a '72 Honda twin CB350, in mint condition.

After a few months it isn't so shiney anymore. I clean it from spokes to tach, in my Dads garage, and pay special attention to the seat.

Dad is standing there when I start it up and take off.

Breaking at the edge of the drive, I slid forward, wapping my nuts on the tank, and then right up and over on top of the tank, becoming wedged in at the handle bars, with the gas cap keeping me from scooching back into place. My legs jutted out in space, with my feet way forward of the front wheel.

It happend so fast I didn't have time to worry about my "cool". The dismount was ugly, but I did keep it from going completely over.

I looked back to see my Dad shaking his head, he turned around, and silently walked back into the house.

Why is it that when we do something like this, the first thing we do is look around to see if anyone saw us doing it? BobberHead, your dad probably did one of two things when he got in the house:

1. Laughed so hard he cried.
2. Cried at the thought that the family line just died on the gastank of a Honda.

That's a funny image, explains further that 'safety margin' you mentioned in a different thread!
