I think the guy at the marina wants to sell you an outboard. There are a good number of boaters with a use count under 10 times a year. I haven't heard of them stampeding to OB motors.

There are sterndrive people and outboard people. How often the drive is used has never turned up in any of the pro/con arguments I've ever read.

Sounds like someone is trying to sell you a new outboard.

I have owned both. Granted, my old boat had an 86 Merc 115 on it. I loved the sound, power. I hated the bulkiness of the engine, the external "everything" (steering, grease from the pivots etc.). I love my I/O!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Simply because I now have a CHEVY ENGINE (Volvo). The simplicity and functionality is second to none. The other bummer with outboards (my old one) is the rectifier charging system...CRAP! With an I/O you now have an alternator.

This guy sounds a little off. In just over forty years of boating I've never, ever heard anyone make the argument that the amount of use should primarily dictate power options.

Perhaps in extreme commercial applications where you're barging gravel or running a diving operation and piling on enough hours to maybe make outboards an option for ease of repowering.

But for recreational use? Around inland Ontario cottage country here most people put less than 30 hours a season on the family boat (present lunatic fringe excepted) and engine choice seems more a matter of trend than anything else. First the outboards, then the I/Os -- now I see outboards are gaining popularity again.

In your case I'd stick with what you've got (and find yourself another marina).

Now, if you were faced with HAVING to buy another boat then there's all sorts of valid factors to consider, most of them discussed ad infinitem within these pages.

This is really strange as Inboards and I/O boats far out number outboards at Lake George

The only Outboards in any large amount are the day rental places

Sorry, didn't mean to imply they have taken over. I/Os are still prevalent up here but you can see the outboards are definitely regaining popularity in a strong way.
