Hey all
Last season I replaced the reverse lock mechanism on my VP 280. Everything seemed fine, but towards the end of the season I started to lose the ability to go into reverse reliably. It seemed like the very first time I would shift into reverse each day I would get it, but then there was nothing for the rest of the day.
Today I realized that the lock collar wasn’t moving freely, and therefore the rod that pushes up against it wasn’t getting full movement, and therefore the shift linkages weren’t getting full range of motion.
I hit everything with WD40 and jiggled it back and forth and now it moves much easier, and I get a wider range of motion. I’m hoping this fixes my problems with getting into reverse ?
So two questions:

So two questions:
- When you look at the attached pictures, is this where everything should be when in reverse ? Ie everything seems to be getting full range of motion?
- If the problem was due to crud building up, how do I resolve that issue when it’s in the water? Is there something I should apply while it’s still on the hard to keep things moving freely all season?
