Link and sync question

Part of the link and sync procedures calls for the cam follower roller to be aligned with the mark on the throttle cam. One would assume that you align the center of the roller with the mark yet the drawing in the manual looks as if you align the mark with the outside of the roller.

Which is it? Does it matter one way or the other?

Re: Link and sync question

I've always tried to center the roller on the mark but with all the slop in an older engine I really don't think it makes a difference... Anything close always seems to work for me...

I center it as well. Never had a problem. I just find it interesting that the gap is set to 0.005" yet they fail to detail the "alignment" point.

The rule is that the carb should start to open when the roller is aligned with the mark. Then due to play in linkage etc quite often the point where the mark touches the roller (center roller) might be slightly advanced. On the 20-35 2 cyl used for slow trolling, I usually put it a bit 'late' to get a more smooth engine running using only the timing advance for rpm adjustment.
