Link Arm Adjustment for even steering

Hi,

On my old boat I used a splashwell mounted steering cable since the nut on the steering cable only went to the splaswell. I got the mount really cheap and it worked great.

Now I have a different hull that came with a steering cable that was long enough for through tube steering. I use the link arm I was given with the outboard I had on my old hull.

It will turn more to the side that the cable comes out of rather than the side that the nut goes on. I get a little less than 1 1/4 turn one way and a little more than 1 3/4 turns the other way.

Is this a common issue? Is there any way to adjust this problem?

Thanks,

:)

Re: Link Arm Adjustment for even steering

If Im reading this correctly your link arm is too long for the set up you are using.Remove the link arm.Turn the steering all the way clockwise measure from the link arm hole to the tilt tube.Turn anti clockwise till the distance is halved.Hold the motor straight ahead & measure the distance betwwen the hole on the steering arm on the motor & the hole in the cable end. This is the length of the linkage reqd to give you equal steering. It takes longer to descibe it than to do it!! :)

So the tilt tube can not be adjusted? I need to buy a different link arm? The one I am currently using is the one I got with the motor. Is it slightly curved.

I have another link arm that is shorter and straight.
