Any body dealt with this stuff on a fiberglass boat? Liquid Nails - Outdoor Carpet Adhesive - AWP40. I'm laying new carpet in my boat and bought a gallon of it thinking it would be good - usually liquid nails stuff is pretty good but then got to thinking - maybe i should have done a little research...

Thanks for the input guys.

I would guess you just want something that is resistant to water. you prob wont have a problem with the outdoor glue.

i put carpet in my little 14 footer i had in 2008, and i used vinyl floor adhesive, besides bonding, it also helps setup up a moisture barrier.

i still see the guy who bought it and the carpet is holding up very well...

just my 2 cents....

I use the heavy duty liquid nails, it is waterproof (only the heavy duty), and works great! Just don't expect to pull the carpet back up very easily! I have laid carpet down in 4 boats now with liquid nails, the first one was three years ago and the carpet is till solid to the boat!

Awesome!! Looks like I'll be good to go then... I slap it on tonight.

By the way - what size trowel do you guys use? 1/8 or 3/32?

I'm sure you will be fine but just make sure if your carpet is rubber backed that the glue won't react with the rubber. If its designed for fabric backed carpet it could melt the rubber. Thats why they make a special formula for gluing foam or poly shower panels. I have seen the regular formula totally melt poly shower panels and they are pretty tough.

preciate the further input guys...

Not concerned with removing it as one piece in the future... the carpet i just pulled up was dry rotted and came off in sections as big as my paint scraper so already used to that.

Yea the can says it can be used with rubber backed or woven backed carpets so i should be good.

I may have bought too big of a trowel though... looking at the link above I almost bought that one but opted to go wth the 1/4x1/4x1/4.... May have to thin it out a little somehow.

Used the outdoor carpet adhesive from Menard's on 2 different boats. Worked fine and had no problems.

If you use the all 1/4 trowell tilt it on a big angle it will reduce the buildup height down quite a bit. Normally a notched trowell should be 90 deg to the substrate but if you tilt it it would be fine for your carpet.
