Hey everyone,
I've read several threads on the subject but don't seem to have a definitive answer.

14 foot deep V aluminum Smoker Craft Vega, 1973. 20 HP Merc 4 stroke.

At plane it lists heavily to port. Sits level at rest. I have it trimmed up.

My question is, which way to angle the trim tab on the motor with a right hand twist prop to correct list to port??

Thanks folks!

If it's listing heavily to one side, I doubt the engine trim tab is going to have any effect. I assume you've played with distributing weight around the boat so it's even? Check the hull for dents or deep impressions on the left side.

No dents or hooks. It's as true as can be for it's age.

I'm certain it's torque causing the list. I'm just not sure which way to turn the tab to counteract the torque.

Steering wheels used to be on the left side in some boats years ago. Finally they standardized to the right (Starboard). Most props of today are cw rotating, looking from the rear. I don't know if one had anything to do with the other or not.

Just thinking about torque, if you were to be able to instantly lock the prop to the water, i.e. the water became an immovable solid, the boat would be forced away from the props rotation because the resistance to the turning moment would exceed the force causing the turning. The only reason you don't really notice is is that the resistance of the water is small as compared to the resistance of the whole boat and associated stresses.

So, thinking through it, yes, it could be torque and possibly that is why all "helms" are now on the right.
