You can usually go to your state's Conservation Dept website and get a listing. Or Fish and Game or whatever each state calls it.

I went to the virginia dept of state and inland fisheries and thier list was disappointing. They had a lot of ramps in virginia but didnt say price or even if you could use gas engines in them. also I know of at least 3 public ramps on the river that werent listed. any other suggestions? Thanks for the help so far :)

Not being from Virginia, I can't help you much on the local level. But way down here in Florida, (land of the mosquito and the open oven door), 'I feel your pain'. We have a .org web page also, that is limitted in it's info, and doesn't list private or pay-ramps (other than the ones I allready helped pay for ).
Try your local Marine patrol, Fish/wildlife office, or cival "power squadron", and see if they have better listings than that posted.
We did, when I went-by the local Coast gaurd office and asked about survey/inspection procedures. Before I left, I asked about ramp location listings, and they directed me to the local Florida FWC office, who had every dirt-ramp even.
But what a round-about way to just to find out where all the ramps were!
