Hi guys :)

ok so i'm somewhat limited to what products i can buy here, certainly brands.

Am looking for an adequate rust guard for my engine during use, not winterising. I waterski loads, tube etc etc and a small amount of water always gets in the bilge, which does get removed by the bilge ofcourse, but i wan't to protect the engine still.

I read on the can that it will withstand 140?C , that's sufficient right?

any cons of spraying my entire engine with the stuff?

Mercruiser recommend 'Corrosion guard' from that purpose.... You are aware that those engines have a cast aluminium sump pan, unlike the previous versions (pressed steel sheet).

hehe, Spain, they don't have as much here unfortunately, maybe because i live in a small coastal town but i find it very limited. For example i had some rusted bolts i need to get out, read about people using nut breaker, rounded bolt wratchet heads etc etc, hardware shops here hadn't even heard of them, i had to order online from the UK

I read about `corrosion guard` and didn't know if it was a brand or it's feature?

i have available 3in1 products, multipurpose grease, rust inhibiting enamel paint, wd40, lithium grease, and if i look real hard maybe some other light rust inhibiting spray oils

hi Chris, i knew at least it wasn't steel :)

Corrosion guard is a Quicksilver product... Any Merc dealer will have it...

Talking about far out places not having stuff... I was in the far east of Russia a couple of years back and had a car engine with a stripped rocker shaft bolt hole in the (ali) head. I said it would be easy to fix with a heli-coil... They never heard of them!!! I got a picture from the 'net and they had never seen them!!!

thanks, i'll go see the dealer in the morning. I tend to try getting products other than at the dealer because they're so expensive here

hehe, well you saying about Russia reminds me of these photos i found on reddit, one is how they refuel a plane in Japan and the other is in China!

Purchase WD-40 in gallon or five gallon containers. A light spray after every trip out will do wonders for the engine. Keep in mind that WD-40 is not a lube and may in fact remove your lube from areas that need it such as throttle and shift linkage. Keep an eye on anything that needs an actual lube. I like using white lithium for lube because it is easy to see and it is very resistant. When you start your engine you will get a little smell from the WD-40 burning off but it goes away quickly. Let the engine cool before reapplying so it doesn't burn off again. WD-40 will also remove any adhesive decals so be aware of that if its a concern.
