I have 3.0 OMC Cobra egine for sale, stored in my garage. I have a potential buyer coming for a look see. Problem is I only have the front lifting eye, the other has gone missing. My qustion is where is the safest place on the engine to atrach a chain or strap from the front lifting eye without snapping something off? We used a chain when we pulled the engine last fall but I'll be damned if I can remember where we attached that chain. Must be old age setting in. Thanks!

Just below the rear of the head on the port side there should be a threaded hole in the block for a lifting eye.
At lease there is on my mercruiser 3.0.

Good info marc. Just finished up a 3.0L timing cover replacement for a neighbor. Looked the thing over yesterday as I was walking away, and had the same question. ...hope I don't have to use your answer. '88 Cobra that I stopped looking for more issues.

Use three points not only will it help keep it from twisting and tilting but it spreads the loads more meaning you can anchor to a lot of places the anchor bolts should be horizontally bolted in if possible and as short as possible the longer the bolt the more leverage is put on it and a bolt thats used that goes in more straight up and down will be relying on the threads rather than the actual strength of the bolt if that makes sense. This engines not that heavy but you do have to get it above and over the boat be safe.
