I just put on a new prop and there's only about a half inch clearance between it and the new prop. And, i dont recall what the clearance was with the old prop. Is this too close?

You're fine. The rig will actually run fine without that fin. Some guys with power steering will remove them.

Your new prop probably has more blade rake, than it's predecessor. Mercury makes three different styles of those anodes. You look to have the standard one. Another style places the fin farther back. The third style is simply the disc, and no fin.

You are fine for now. if you get another prop with more rake, you will want to swap the anode for the other style.

agree with all... you dont need the fin.. I replaced mine with a "flat anode".. enables you to run slightly greater width props.
