I am haveing trouble seeing pictures in a lot of the forums. Instead of pix I am getting little red X's. This is happening on 3 different computers. Could someone go to the "hull extension" thread and hit refresh just to verify that it's me and not the post? If it is me then I can't figgure out what I'm doing wrong, on 3 different computers no less! The weird part is that some of them come through some of the time which makes me think that there is something intermitent going on at the web site.
I donno...any help would be greatly appretiated

It might be a connectivity problem on your end. I just checked the last 2 pages of that thread and the pictures are showing up fine. I am going to move this so a few computer gurus can add their thoughts.

Not from work. The big brother filter has that site blocked. That solves that problem but sometimes I can't view them from home either. In fact last night from home I was able to view the hull extension pix but the ones put up by F14CRAZY on his rebuild thread still would not come up.
Thanks for the help,
Lenny

When you first open the iboats forum page log in right then. At times I'll go surfing the pages until I find something I want to look at and then I'll log on - then I get those pesky X's as well.
If that doesn't work then I guess you'll need to wait for some real advise !! :D

Those are hosted at myspacecdn.com. I'm guessing that's the domain MySpace uses for hosting pictures. That one's a little tougher to troubleshoot because it's not meant be "surfed".

A good way to test these things out is to right-click the image (or red X) and click properties. That will show the location the image is hosted at.

Many times aggressive browser security (either settings or third party apps like Safe Surf) will block pictures and and active X apps from third party domains. Meaning, if the content is not from the site you are visiting, it isn't allowed.

Last night I set my browser security settings to the lowest setting and still got x's on F14's thread. what operating system and browser version are you guys running? I'm on XP pro and ie7 I think. I should try firefox and see it it still happens when I get home.

Re: little red X's

Besides IE7 being way out of date, I would say trying FF wouldn't solve the problem. I believe that if its from a work computer, they're blocking you from seeing the sites that the images are hosted at. My dad has that trouble when I send him stuff too, I have to send images as an attachment if I want him to get them at all most of the time.

I know I'm not much help, but I don't know why you aren't able to see them. You should try doing the right click properties thing and try to view the image by itself. If you can't do that, then you know where your problem lies, within your computer.

ie7 way out of date? I thought ie8 just came out. What do you use?

This is a stretch, but true nonetheless...

If you use a VPN connection to your work from home AND your VPN is configured to "use default gateway on remote network" you will be blocked from the same sites as you are at work.

Re: little red X's

OK so heres the latest. I don't know what changed but I can now see everything from my home computer except the pix on page 3 of f14crazy's rebuild thread and at this point I don't really care. There are enough pix and descriptions on other rebuild threads for me to get the idea of what I need to look for as I gut my own boat.
Thank you one and all for your efforts and suggestions.
See ya on the water (I hope)
