ok folks just wondering if anyone has any suggestions,

i have a 1972 55hp Chrylser outboard, was getting her ready for the lake doing the usual tune up. and i cant get it to start,

just put new spark plugs, and rebuilt carbs. but we checked and it is not getting enough spark. When trying to crank it the spark wont stay constant

the only thing i could think is it could be the coils, and im gonna replace them but i was just wondering if there is anything else that could cause such a little spark

thanks

Number of things. are plugs new?, are the wires good? are points clean and adjusted? is there rust on magnets?

Re: little spark

Good Luck! One thing you mite wanna check, the sparkplug wires can get real corroded over time, it is a matter of cutting wires back about 1/4" and reinstalling. just a thought!

Re: little spark

Before replacing the coils, double check placement of the cam--arrow side up. replace the condensers if you have not done so yet. Then look into the plug ends of the wires. They are regular steel springs and rust out over time. If they are broken, replace with regular automobile spark plug terminations.

And just for giggles: Points gap is .020

Wonderful, This is why we always suggest to double check the basics first! Happy Boating Brain.
