Little water in oil,bad intake?

Hello, I have a 1977 305 volvo. It had not run for 3 years,and was winterized. I got it running and after about 4 hrs use I saw that the oil was up only about 3/4 of a inch on the stick but was white. I know that the intake gasket is leaking air and was wondering if small amounts of water can seep in through the intake gasket? The boat is in the water and was trying to see if I could try just changing the intake gasket or is there a way to check for something else"i.e" head gasket or exhaust manafold? I know that compreshion is stagered between 120 and 150 and no 2 together seem to drop. THANKS DAVE

Since you know it's leaking, fix the intake gasket then check it out again. Hopefully it's just that or your riser gaskets.

Thanks magster,I have seen a lot of referance to the exhust manafolds also, I did notice that the boat would max out at 2900 rpm and not plane off and I was thinking timming but now I am wondering if it is getting a little water in the cylnders when under power. I am still working the bugs out and trying to save some work along the way.

What ever you decide to do get that oil out of the motor as fast as you can. Charlie

One of my risers went bad on me a while back. The symptoms were;<br />- it would lose a cylinder at idle<br />- at higher rpm it had a little miss<br />It didn't really lose any top end power to speak of... just the miss. If it is your risers that are giving you grief, notice the new ones have a spot for a drain plug in the back of them. If you put in zinc plugs (2 per riser), and replace them every year, you'll get ten years out of that set. Let us know how you make out
