Was wondering... I have a Jon boat with a Livewell in middle Seat. If I fill it up will it drain while Crusing or need to be on a Trailer?

I don't have a trailer for it I just leave it at Cabin.

Do you have a fill/drain valve? Some of the older ones used rubber snap plugs available at most hardware stores.

Re: Live Well Draining

Whether it drains or not depends on where the water level is in relation to the lake water level. The water in the livewell cannot drain any lower than the level of the lake. If the boat is moving so the drain at the back of the boat is clear of the water, then the livewell will drain completely but the minute you stop the livewell will fill to the level of the lake. If the bottom of the livewell is above lake level, it should drain completely when the boat is at rest. If not, you can drain the well by running the boat and when the well is empty, stick the plug or standpipe in.

Check the location of the drain. If it drains through the transom, it will drain while running if you pull the plug. If it drains directly down mid hull it will drain if there is a deflector over the hole. If there is no deflector or it has been mashed flat then it will drain slowly at best. If nothing else, use a small bilge pump to drain it over the side. This can also be used to fill it with.

Theres a plug in middle of seat. I woulds guess it would fill if boats in water?

I have a transom drain but its not connected to the livewell.

I could modd a pipe from livewell to my transom and use plug on outside of boat.

So exactly where does the drain on the livewell lead to? Does it just dump into the bottom of the boat. Odd that it doesn't have a through-hull drain. Regardless, it would be easy enough to add.
