So i have a 1987 Ranger 374V and ive noticed that my livewell doesnt hold water while moving the boat across the lake, nor will it hold water when the boat is out of the water even if i have the the switch on fill and not empty.. So my question is what would be the problem and how would I even try to begin to fix it?

More than likely you have a leak around the drain for the live well. Check the liner closely and see if there are any cracks in thje plastic/fiberglass. The only place ic can really leak is around a fitting. Question is...where is the water going?

Is your fill tube on the transom? if so it can't fill when you are on a plane. And if the well's not plugged, you will drain when you run. regardless of where the fill is, your pump might not keep up

Re: Livewell not holding water..

This boat apparently has a drain and fill VALVE operated by a switch or cable. Look at the switch or dial and follow the wires or cable to find the valve. It will likely be somewhere in the bilge. If the valve cannot seal, it will allow water in but it will likely run back out since the drain side is not turned off. Otherwise, put the boat on the trailer and dump five gallons of water into the live well. See where it comes out. If it comes out the drain at the stern, follow that line to the valve.
