Livewell PVC question

What size PVC should I get to do some livewell plumbing that will connect up with the flex livewell tubing? And do you just slide the flex over the pvc and use a screw down hose connector?

I am a noob at installing livewells but I am going to put one in my Jon boat this weekend.
