Livewell wont fill

I have an alumacraft classic and when i go to use the livewell I open the valve in the tank,switch it on and can here the pump running,however no water runs into the livewell.If I fill the livewell by hand until I can get water to flow down the infeed head and switch the pump on it will work fine until I move the boat again,then I am back to square one,the dealer tells me to drive the boat backwards to force water in ,but this dosen't seem like a solution.There are no blockages since the pump works when primed from the livewell end.The pump is below the water line so shouldn't it prime itself,i've tried switching in on and off a couple of times but still nothing.....
Any ideas anyone

Is the pump mounted at a level below the waterline? Is there maybe an inverted trap on the inlet line?

Thanks for the reply,the pump is below water line and I can see the pump impeller from the back ao the boat so there is no check valve or inverted trap
