Load weight question?

I was wondering what most people like to do with all of their gear when traveling? All in boat, all in truck bed, 50 50, or what. Is there a better way to load your setup or does it all wash out in the end. I usually go sleeping bags, clothes bags, lighter stuff in the boat. Then drink coolers, toolboxes, etc heavier stuff in the truck bed. How do all you guys and gals distribute??

The more weight you put in the boat, the more you stress the hull and the trailer. The axle and tires may not have a lot of reserve capacity, and you have to worry about maintaining the proper tongue weight ratio. However, your strategy of very light but bulky item in the boat and heavy stuff in the tow vehicle makes sense.That's what I've always done.
