loading trouble

when I pull my boat off the trailer the bow eye hangs up on the front roller and is difficult to get above the roller when loading. I've lowered the front roller and moved the winch post toward the rear to maintain boat position on the trailer and not get too much tongue weight but can not go any lower with the bow roller. would increasing the bunk thickness aleviate this problem? both bunks are completely submerged and if I am not fully submerged you can't even winch the bow to the roler.
also it has 2 rows of bunk that run the length of the trailer on each side, and backing in further doesn't help much untill water is coming in the doors.
And would I have to adjust the center rollers as well (they can't go any higher without fabrication)

Can you give us some pics? Are you talking about the stop on the winch post? What kind of boat?

New or shortened winch stand . . . If you raise the bunks the main rollers will be less help than they are today. He is talking about the bow stop, but it is probably shaped like a roller instead of a v block type. V block would probably make it worse. Been there, done that before.

I had the exact same problem a while back too. Believe it or not, do not submerge your trailer as much next time. I know that sounds contrary to what you may think, but it might just work for you, as it has for me. By doing this, it decreases the angle that boat sits on the trailer which allows the bow eye to line-up with the bow roller a little better so winching it on should be much easier. Also, try spraying some PAM or eco-friendly cooking grease on your bunks just prior to loading your boat. Get everyone out of the boat too when winching, or, make sure they are all in the back of the boat. Every boat is a little different so try a few things to see what works best for you. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

What kind of boat do you have? Send pics!

Re: loading trouble

Sounds like your trailer is set up wrong and is not safe the way it is. The bow eye is supposed to go below the bow stop and so is the winch cable/strap. The reason is thatin a hard stop the boat will want to keep moving forward and the keel of the boat will climb the bow stop. With the bow stop above the eye, the bow stop and strap fight this tendency. Post a picture so we can see how your trailer is set up.

Re: loading trouble

If i am reading this right, your bow eye is over top of your roller? If thats the case its something new to me. I have never seen a boat that the eye is on top of the roller when loaded right. The eye should be under the roller and the winch strap goes from the crank to the eye passing under the roller. This is how it keeps the nose of the boat down on the trailer and keeps it from bouncing.

Re: loading trouble

Although this is an old trailer, and not the ideal setup, winch over the roller is not uncommon:

Re: loading trouble

Wil have to borrow a camera to get some pics, gimme a couple of days. I had a gw in the late 80'sand it hooked over the bow stop. when I bought thi the eye was over the bow so I assumed it was to be that way. But I didn't know it was o.k. to load it with the eye under the bow stop roller so I have put the coals to it and got it over the roller, and have been waiting for the day I miss and land it in the back of the truck(arghhhh) only pic i have of it right now is on my profile and I think I posted one in the photos section is an 89 mach-1 Magnum mv2450 24.5 ft. 4200 pounds.
