You folks were helpful the other day regarding my impellar install and gear line up.

When I installed lower part of lower unit I must have moved shaft into reverse
Starting engine water was coming up into heat exchanger, but noticed
prop was spinning forward when I was in neutral
Took everything apart and noticed I had shift gears in reverse with throttle forward.
Re checked my work making sure shaft was forward and it now works fine.

At the same time my power steering became hard.
Working in lower unit area I was unable too move lower unit. Its locked with no right & left movement

First thought was some sort of safety because I installed shaft wrong ?
On line guys and local marine shop indicated it was coincidence it crapping
out same time as your lower unit issue

Steering worked fine prior too impellar change.

My question
Because I installed not lined up properly is there a safety lock out . ?
Is there some sort of emergency release, cause if this happened in driveway
what would have happened on the water *( besides calling Sea Tow)
My plan is too remove steering cable from steering piston , if its not the cable
whats my next steep .
Never worked on steering arm before so any advice what too look out for ?
Is there away too pry loose prior too taking off from transom wall ?
What ever advice prior too digging into this next project is appreciated

No, there is no lock out

There is no release, something is messed up since your unable to turn it. Remove the cable and you should be able to grab the drive and move it left and right. If your unable to move it with cable removed it's in the drive gimbal steering pins, your power steering ram is frozen or something is in a bind. Look for something that may have fallen into the works while you were working on it.

Do not try to pry the steering free. Suggest taking the entire out drive off and start from there.
