location of thermostats on a 1979 evinrude 140.

i maybe over looking them but i cant seem to find the thermos on a 1979 evinrude 140 w/ 20" shaft. help please

Both thermostats are under the exhaust bubble at the back of the powerhead, right at the top of the midsection. Thermostat removal and replacement on this engine often creates skinned knuckles in most of us..due to the confined space you have to work in.

Hi, on my 1981 140, I drilled 3 holes in the outer motor housing to get the bolts out and back in. I think I used a 1" hole saw. It made it a lot easier. I have heard that some people cut out a 3 x 6 or so panel to get in there. Hope this helps , John

Yea, I argued with someone on here about the location of t-stats on my 115....I said they did'nt have any. Than looking at the midsection schematic of the motor, there they were....tucked all the way under the bubble; nearly impossible to get to without the need for bandaids and ointment afterward
