Lockout lever install Help

I need help installing the Lockout Lever in my 1980 Johnson (evinrude) remote control box.
Im not sure how it fits in?

I left it out, it starts and shifts better....I don't know if that's bad for it or not.

If I remember right the lock out lever keeps you from shifting when the warm lever is up. Be careful.

I think your right, I like it better like this though, it kind of defeats the purpose of the high idle lever with the lockout lever installed....I would have taken it out earlier had I known.
