I'm working on a mid 60's Lonestar Holiday 16' and was wondering if anyone could tell me what the piece of wood on the hinges is for? I see from old brochure scans that the back rest had the keyhole bracket & the clip, then could be relocated to form a bunk, but I can't figure out how or what this hinged piece is for. It's on both seat fronts, painted with original paint, and has no fastener holes anywhere, so I don't think anything mounted to them.

Also, any idea what the rectangular cut out it for, if anything, that's on the seat surface? There's one on both seat areas as well.

Lastly, what good is the bow hatch? It's hard to reach from inside the boat, and I wouldn't care to lean over from a dock or beach to try to put anything in or take anything out. Is it just a vent?

Re: Lonestar seats

Wow, that's a cool looking old Lonestar...never seen one with a bow hatch before. The 16-foot Texas Maid Fiesta had one, too, about the same vintage. Could be for ventilation, but I've always guessed they were for getting access to the bow so you could tie off or anchor out, etc. Just a guess though.

HA! Maybe people we built smaller back then? Even tho there's quite a bit of room under the deck, you'd have to be a contortionist to crawl under then up through the hatch. I'm leaning towards vent; otherwise you'd have to lay on the deck to be able to access anything through the hatch.

I guess I did good on this boat - traded a nice running '62 Evinrude 18hp for this boat & trailer w/ a non-running '59 Evinrude 35hp. Nice project boat, hope to have it on the water in the next few weeks; just need a transom ladder. :D
