Long Engine / Short Transom -make it work?

I found a new bayboat with a new 115 E-tec ( one dealer bought out surplus inventory from troubled dealer) and was ready to purchase the pair until my dealer realized the motor length doesnt match the 20" transom, evidently it was just hung on there by 2 bolts but never installed and rigged. I like the boat and the motor and the price is right. The present dealer is suggesting mounting the engine on a jack-plate and making it work that way, since I like both. Is there any mechanical or physical reason not to do this ??

That's the best solution for your dilemma. And it's a good one.

Good luck.

Good solution as long as your control and steering cables are free and clear and won't bind.

I had to buy a steering cable that was a foot longer, the extra control cable length is less than a few inches.
