So 8Im looking at a vintage engine for my restoration project. I know the older engines ran deeper than the new ones. My question is I have a 15" transom. So obviously I need a short shaft. I have attached a picture of what I believe to be a long shaft it measures 22". So if the looking at engines and they don't have the center silver section even tho they measure about 17" are these the short shaft of yester years?

Re: Long or short shaft?

Well i can't imagine seem to get a picture toyou load through my phone. I guess to simplify. When looking at the leg of older omc's like 1960ish. There are either two or three sections. My assumption is the three section, is used for 20" transoms and the two section for 15"transom transoms. Is that correct?
