hey guys, i just picked up a 1967 18 hp fast twin. she started on the 4th pull after sitting for at least 2 years. i'm gonna change out the wp and impeller but am curious as to what i would need to buy or scrounge up to convert her to a short shaft. are there quality used parts available for this swap and what parts will i need? also, is there a diy for this?

Easy project----You remove the 5 inch spacer in the exhaust housing.------Need a shorter driveshaft and other small pieces depending on whether it is factory or a kit installed later.---Post pictures of pieces when lower unit is off.

The model number says it left the factory as a short shaft. So, if you are lucky, whoever changed it to long shaft used a 5" longer shift rod connector. That means all you have to do as far as the shift rod goes, is replace the long connector with a short one. You will need a short bolt at the rear and a short water tube---or cut 5" off the long one.
