long shaft to short

I have a long shaft lower unit, and a short on mine (that is toast). would like to save and swap driveshaft and use the outher one 100 hp the units are the same except driveshafts and shift arm length can this be changed out easly or am I in for trouble? I had no luck with the search crap did'nt work for me. thanks

It can be changed out but if you have never done it before I would not use the word "easily". The shift rod is easy to switch-they just screw in and out. However to switch the drive shaft you have to completely dismantle the gearcases. You also need special tools-a puller for the prop shaft housing, and a special socket that goes on the upper end of the drive shaft and a wrench to hold the pinion nut on the lower end of the drive shaft.

Thanks I don't think I will try it mabey sell it on ebay and buy one with the right shaft sounds easyer.
