Long Shaft vs Short Shaft

I've a little 13ft Fletcher speedboat which at some time in the past has had the transom built-up by a couple of inches, presumably to take a long-shaft engine.

The engine I want to fit is a 20HP short shaft Johnson. Would it be better for me to return the transom to its original height or won't it matter too much?

The top of the cavitating plate is an inch or so above the bottom of the keel when the motor is fitted.

Regards
Gary

It may work just fine where it's at.Only a water test can confirm final results.

OK Thanks, I'll hold off of pulling the boat to bits until I've had her back in the water.

Cheers
Gary
