Hi, Got a 18' Checkmate Exciter with a 1986 Evinrude 115.
VRO is unhooked just mixing my own gas. All cylinders have fire, compression is good, new carb kits, run seafoam through to decarb, new plugs. On the water the boat runs good, but just takes a long time to get on plane. WOT runs about 42mph. I just feel that it should be able to jump straight up out of the water. Anyway, I was hoping some of you guys might have some ideas or suggestions. Thankyou

Could be several things. Water logged hull like Fairlaine man suggests. If you could help us with a bit more info like:

How long have you had the boat? Did this condition develop recently?

What RPM are you turning at WOT? How does the engine sound when running up to plane? Is it bogging and missing or is there lots of noise and spray out the back but no bite?

What pitch is your prop and have you been experimenting with different pitches? Is the prop damaged or slipping?

Is your gas old? Is your timing off? Where your carb kits built and installed correctly?

There's a bunch of stuff it could be and with this crowd theres no such thing as too much info! :D

If I am correct, and I have been wrong before maybe once, that boat is rated for a 150 HP or maybe even more.

That being said, the 115 will be a bit of a pig out of the hole. If it's running at peek you may want to try a lower pitched prop but we need more information to help you out. If the engine you have does not have power trim you are beating a dead horse.
