Am kicking the idea around of selling the house, buying a power cruiser, and cove hopping around the Virgins for as long as my bank acc. can stand it.<br /><br />The cruiser is a 42' Sea Ray, that I have no business standing behind the wheel of right now, as it gives me the willies. But assumeing I get over that part, the question is: "would this be adventureous and fun or just really dumb?".<br /><br />I think this is my aquatic version of "gold fever". One summer I hiked through AZ and NM hunting gold, don't regret a day of it. Compared to that, snorkleing for sunken treasure seems like a cool breeze.<br /><br />Should add that I sailed Monterey Bay a while ago with a friend and his crew and I am NOT a sailor.<br /><br />Cheers, bobber

Re: Long vacation in the islands...

hey bob...I spent 3 years on Saint John building a house for a friend..it's fun but expensive...go for a visit or an extended(month)visit if possible and get the feel for it before commiting yourself...remember that there is a limited number of permanent residents and don't try to "fit in" too quickly-they'll resent that...also remember that there are a lot of people there that don't want to be found-ask before taking pictures !!...between the residents is a VERY "small town" atmosphere-everybody knows everybody elses' business..try it before really committing-I actually preferred the BVI's over the USVI's...it seemed that the USVI natives believe that the Americans ALL OWE them something...hey-it wasn't us Americans- it was the Dutch 400 years ago..the BVI natives just seemed more friendly and outgoing

Re: Long vacation in the islands...

Greetings,<br /><br />The cruising fees and permits are putting me off everywhere I turn (as if boat boy's aren't enough) and have yet to figure even a ball park idea of how far I can get on 300 gallons of fuel. <br /><br />However, this GREAT DEAL!(ie: a friend), on the Sea Ray is starting to turn south though. <br />"Oh, I told you the VHF radio sometimes shorts the head, right?" <br /><br />No worries about camera's though: I gave that up for pencils. Am thinking the most valauble thing onboard would be my hammock.<br /><br />Man, what I don't know about what I want to do could fill several large books. This ideas is off to a great start, eh?<br />Bobber
