Planning to replace my freeze damaged 1986 4.3 with a rebuilt longblock .Can anyone recommend a reputable supplier based on personal experience ?I am located in NH . I have looked at rapido and michigan motors thus far. Also, can someone tell me the headroom needed above the transom to pull the motor.I have a i- beam in the garage at 7-6" to the bottom flange. The boat transom sits at 48" on the trailer.Doesnt leave much room for a chain fall.Thank you in advance.this forum has some really great technical experts ,as well as a boatload of novices with limited resources like myself.

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... If ya got a Good Parts Guy at yer local GM dealership,...

GM sells brand new crate motors, fairly reasonably priced,....

Takin' the wheels off yer wagon can gain ya another 1' to work with,.....

+1 what he said

take wheels off, put 2x4's under the hubs to protect your floor

Thank you for the info, sorry I didn't reply sooner,I thought that my post didn't go thru,I just posted the same question again, sorry.I am still getting set up for the engine pull.I assume I need two engine stands so I can work like a gentleman swapping over the externals.I wanted to wait until I had the new longblock before pulling the engine so that I could just swap everything over so I don't get befuddled trying to figure out what goes where if I pull it apart in advance.I was considering mounting a 3000 lb boat winch to the bottom flange of my garage I beam then mounting a pulley on the bottom flange of the beam directly above the engine,so that I have minimum amount of rigging above the engine si I can get the motor lifted high enough to clear the transom.I only have 7-6 inches to bottom of my beam.the transom is at 4 feet on the trailer, not much room to work with. Im trying to avoid doing it outside, the flying bugs here will drive you insane.
