Greetings all,

This is my first time at this site and I am hopefully going to become a boat owner on Saturday. Can everyone please look at this boat and tell me what they think?
It's a 1986 Bayline 1950 Capri. Their asking 3500 for it. Also what are some things I'll need to look for when I look at it?
Thanks in advance,
Mike http://www.boattraderonline.com/addetail.html?1680931

Re: LOOK AT THIS BOAT

Hello Mike Welcome aboard. Can't tell you much about the boat and motor but can tell you if its in good shape go for it. I bought a 1987 Bayliner bass boat with a 125 force motor two years back and me and the son have had a blast with it. We've made alot of memories in the last two years that nobody can take away. Force motor and all. And I also have found out that there is alot of great guys in this forum that will help a guy in need. I've been reading these articals for months now. And am sure that I'll be needing they're assistance sooner or later. But also remember when your neighbor comes over like mine did when I brought it home and says the two happiest days of owning a boat are the day you buy it and the day you sell it. That its not true. You can ask my twelve year old about that. So have fun and make waves and safe memories. Enjoy life. Its to short!!!
Happy boating. :)

mike212,

WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!! YOu say 3500. well, that is a bite high. if you look at the www.nadaguides.com - you can get it a few hundred cheper. is the engine good.

Can i say this. you are smart for asking before you buy. especially here. because i was in the same shoe as you last feb. and i didnt know jack about boating. but i thought i could handle it cause i am a grease monkey. anything automotive. well, i got a bayliner capri 20' with the L- drive force engine. man,......was i buying trouble. only if i knew what i knew now !

the hull is good, except the chairs are ****ty, dried up and will rip if you even stand on it. it was a (okay) boat. but the engine gave me problems from the first time i took it out. i was stranded cause the shift linkage came off. and on a L-drive it was under water. -- they were asking 3500 for it and i got it for 3000. at that time i didnt think of going online and asking. you doing the right thing.

ask before u buy .

i know u can get it cheaper. --- start dealing.

Re: LOOK AT THIS BOAT

Mike:

The Bayliner/Force topic is probably raised more often than any other in this forum. Those of us who've been around here for a while have seen this issue beat to death. Before you buy...you might want to take the time and utilize the "search" feature of this column and go back and read what's already been posted. Any question you could possibly ask about the Bayliner/Force topic has already been answered...all ya gotta do is go back and read the previous posts...

Good luck and welcome to the site...

Walt

Re: LOOK AT THIS BOAT

Mike sorry about bringing up the force issue.
I was kind of reflecting on what happened to me when I bought my first boat and how we have enjoyed it.
I see the boat says it has a volvo motor in it and I think I've kind of side tracked everybody because Bayliner was good with including a Force motor in a package deal and I brought it up. I hope you get the information you want.
But always try to get it for less and make sure its in good shape. You can always come up in price.
But check the fiber glass out for cracks or stress cracks and have them take you for a cruise and see how she'll run. Look at the carpet and seats. Seats I think come out in two sections. Are they going to need to be recovered and if so how much. If one side needs recovering the other side will need to to be recovered also so it will match.Good luck and sorry again about the side tracking. My thinking has always been what does it cost for a new boat and motor verses how much money it will cost me in the worse scenario if something happens. Basically am I buying this cheap enough that I can afford to put some money into it and not have the price of a new boat and motor and still enjoy it and have money for gas and bait, beer or whatever yor preference might be.
Enjoy :)
