Evinrude Fisherman #5522 - 01625 5.5hp (I believe 1962)

I'm not sure what I want to do with this. It looks like it's in great condition and really clean. The previous owner said it was running the other day (no reason to think he's telling a fish story here) but needs carb adjustment and I haven't any time to dig into it yet. P/O had it sitting in his garage for years and traded it to me for an impeller replacement on one of his motors. I pulled 75lb compression on both cylinders.

Is there a decent collector market for these? Does it appear to be in good shape for the vintage? I figure I'll get it running well (25:1 yep, yep) and put it up for sale since it doesn't really fit into the scheme of my personal needs. What advice does anyone have for making it most appealing for someone that could use it?

Edit: Just started it. It ran a bit rough but I can tell I need to rebuild the carb and get it adjusted correctly. I'll search the forums for the slow/fast needle adjustments unless anyone would care to pipe in.

i would firstly suggest that you lower it in the barrel for tuning. the water pump wont self prime. it is a nice clean looking motor!!! if it were me, id try to market it to the fishing crowd rather than a collector, as they tend to fetch a bit more bucks as a motor that will be used.

What do you mean by won't self prime? I can get the water to the top (a/v?) plate with my 20 gallon bucket. I didn't get a chance to see if it was flushing water in the 30 second test run.

I've seen a few similar to this for sale and top dollar in these parts seems to be $300 for the asking price. I'm not sure what they actually sell for.

That's a cool looking engine.
nwcove is correct, it needs to be deeper in the water, the pump needs to be at least 3-4" below the water level.
The static settings for the carb are, 1 1/4 turn out from lightly seated for the low speed needle, and the high speed needle should be 3/4 turn out from lightly seated. You will have to put it in the water to fine tune it.

Thanks Guys!

BTW...Daviet, I spent a lot of time on Clear Lake and grew in a town where two interstates cross just north of there!

Collectors would rather get it in unmolested condition. Save yourself some time and money and sell it for less and you will be ahead.
