They have one of the loudest barks on muffs I've ever heard. They blow smoke rings too. ;)

Dude you aren't kidding. We had an old 55 and it was scary on the muffs. And yes, the smoke rings were very cool!!!

Whats with the smoke rings? We are about to get our 71 50 horse (that we got for 600 w/o controls. course, we had no clue what we were doing - its amazing what I have learned in a year off this site) running, and maybe we should throw it on the muffs to see the rings.

this get even better, the stainless prop had never been in the water. i didn't pay much attention to it, just that it need to be changed since it was for a small hub, and this is a big hub. It's a brand new $250 Rapture Prop. went on ebay this morning. i have an aluminum for it in the shed.

Good find td. I do the same thing looking at Craigs list all day long for deals. I need to stop, but I can't pass up a deal.

Re: look what $150.00 can still buy.

I have one of those as well! '71 lark 50 selectric with push button shift like my old valiant! Only paid $120 CDN! I put 100's of hours on it now.
Unfortunately I blew a hole in a piston because I didn't replace the head gasket with a thicker one nor did I retard the timing to run today's lousy gas and always ran it at wot.
Unfortunately, they don't make pistons for that motor anymore and had to settle for a used from my local dealer. Quick hone and new rings got her back to 150 both holes. Beware the old green coils are prone to cracking and can give you fits troubleshooting. Blew a swtchbox last time out so I swapped out for a merc I6 (86 115). Paid $750 for that 115 with a great 17' deep vee and trailer. I thought the merc would burn way more gas but that is not the case. The lark would get about 2.65 km/litre running 23 mph at 3500 via my navman gps with fuel sensor while my big merc gets a very respectable 2.5 km/litre running at 27mph also tuning 3500. The fact that the lark has a nice steel prop while the merc has an old aluminum means that the merc might do just as well if not better if it had a steel prop as well. That lark could idle all day though while the merc needs to get up and go. I got myself a 3 hole '75 70 johnrude as well now and that will be my next project. $500 with a good 15' boat and trailer and it runs well but needs cleaning and paint.
