I found a 36' boat that I am really intersted in. It has a volvo penta diesel. I've been around inboards and outboards but never an I/O. I'm not sure on any model numbers and won't be able to look at the boat for two weeks. So what are some common problems or other things I need to check for on the drive? I dont want to buy this boat and then end up having to tack on the $$$$ for a new outdrive right after. Thanks

Welcome and tell us a bit more about the boat . . . based on your question I assume this is a V-P diesel I.O ???

The actual condition of the boat and more specifically the engine and outdrive will be the determining if there are any money pit issues. V-P is a fine engine, but for any model idiosyncrasies, more info may be needed.

I assume that you will have a survey and a mechanical inspection (it would be a good idea) . . . . those should be more telling.

I second the welcome to the forum

I see Volvo making a very good product and like all manufactures there have been issues but the go and come. As tpenfield stated we need more info
