I am looking at upsizing to an 89 sun runner 318. I currently have an 88 sun runner 230 weekender. I like the way my boat runs and handles and has been problem free for me, but we are looking for more space for longer trips onboard. it has twin 5.7L volvo duo-props, and appears to be in good condition with 600 hrs. My current boat has a single 5.0L duo-prop and I love the way it runs. So my question is are there any major issues I should be looking at on the larger sun runner? I know to get it surveyed and sea trial, but I'd like to know any major problems before going through all that. Thanks

Like anything else, the new boat is going to boil down to the care and maintenance it has received.

You'll find that although the preventative maintenance items double, there is so much less wear & tear on the engines that they actually need much less repair work. Also, once you learn to pilot with twin engines (if you don't yet know), it is so much easier to control a larger boat than with a single screw.

Be careful...after getting into a 30+ footer, it's just going to get worse from there! 2 more years, go for the 33...then the 37...if I just could get the 40', we'd be perfect...maybe a 42...:D

The only "complaint" I heard from the owner of a 27'-28' Sunrunner at my club was that one winter he put the cover on the boat and rested it on the radar arch. I guess the weight of the snow broke the arch, and it was $2000 to fix/replace.

Other than that he hasn't had any gripes I have heard about.
