Looking at buying 186 super sport,need input

I,m looking at buying a 06 larson 186 super sport the boat weights 2800 lbs some people say to get the 4.3 merc mpi with alpha drive and others, volvo 5.0GL I'm confused!! I'll be using the boat for the kids (wakeboard,ski,tube), I beleive the 5.0 gl will get me on plane faster and the ride will be quieter and cheaper on fuel than the merc 4.3 MPI I'm I right ???

Go for the larger motor. No one ever said "My boat has too much power!"

As far as fule consumption, I think the two will be very close. You will get a better hole shot with the 5.0L as it has more low end torque.

I believe the 4.3 should get better gas mileage due to the fact that it is fuel injected and the GL is carb'd. 4.3 will be easier to start long term but may lack top end speed. My last boat, a 06' 186 senza did 53 with the 5.0 GL. I'd go with that one.
