I have a 14 ft 2016 Alumacraft model # 1436LT jon boat and was looking at putting a 45lb thrust Minn Kota foot control trolling motor on the bow, my question is which length shaft would work best, a 36" or the 42" ? Walmart had a pretty decent price on the 45lb thrust foot control, but I believe the two I looked at was 42" shaft marked on the box. Thanks for any info.

The only true way is to actually measure from you bow to the waterline when you are on the water. However, a longer one can be cut down if necessary. And a 45 pound thrust should be plenty for a flat bottom jon boat as well. JMHO

Ok thanks for the reply, I thought maybe someone on here might have the same boat I have and had mounted a bow mount that would know for sure on the shaft length. I may have to go that route and do the measuring while boat is in the water. Some reviewers I'd read while shopping for the Minn Kota trolling motors did say they wished they would have gotten the smaller 36" shaft length but they did not specify what kind of boat they had. I believe on my Tracker Deep V 17 the bow mount trolling motor shaft is 45".
