New to forum so if I am in wrong place please forgive.
I am looking at a 1985 Invader 16 today,it's an I/O with omc 2.5. I looked briefly at it yesterday before the heavens opened up, and I had a couple concerns. I am not familiar with the stringer mounted I/O's and I don't know what to check for when looking for structural problems. I have done enough fiberglassing to know I don't want another project right now.The transom itself looks fine, the rubber boot appears dry and hard and should probably be changed( I assume). The 2 rear motor mounts are sitting on blocks of wood. Is this normal? The trim motor or gearing doesn't work, is this a big deal to fix. The seller said the mechanic set the trim at a "happy medium" and that the boat goes well.
The boat is fairly clean, and trailer average. Today we hook up the water and try out the motor. No way to get an actual lake run. Any tips here here would be appreciated.
Thanks ahead

The really knowledgable people will repeat this later--Run Run Run Away!!!!

Besides the rotten rubber boot, the trim problem and the motor mounts that are not mounted to anything the real killer is the OMC motor. Parts are scarce and if you can find anyone to work on them you are very lucky indeed.

4th of July weekend so your responses could be limited.

Welcome to Iboats.

EDIT:That rubber boot is called a bellows.

Hey neighbor (only about 1 gour away) ;)

Welcome to iboats.

I agree..... RUN from that one. The older Invaders had some poor constuction.... they used to sell them here in VT and they found out how poorly they were made. I would keep looking.

Keep your eye on Craigslist in VT..... there have been some good deals there.
