My uncle is willing to sell me his boat it is a 1994 chris craft with only 120 hours, (he purchased the boat new in 1994), it has been covered in storage the last 5 years. The boat was professionally winterized the year he put it away. The boat is a chris craft concept 180 with a 4.3L V6 and a omc outdrive. He is asking $5000. Should i say no becuase it has an omc outdrive or is that not a big deal? im not really familiar with I/O boats anything to look out for? any help appreciated.

Ayuh,..... OMC's, Yamaha's, 'n 470 Mercruiser's.....

That 1 would have atleast 2 strikes against it, to Me,...

It's an OMC, 'n it probably has the 1 piece bat-wing exhaust manifolds,... If they ain't already leaked, 'n been replaced...

With the SEI conversions, the drive is a lesser issue....

Being a 1994 model, it could have a 1993 model year engine and drive. That would make it a Dog clutch model. ................I'd run away from it.................

If it is in fact a 1994 model, it'll be a cone clutch model. ...........Possibly an SX (Volvo) ...... If so, the drive at least is a good one.

If it's one of the "interim" OMC (NOT SX) drives Don't run away, get in the car and DRIVE away!!

If you're seriously considering buying it, you need to know the actual year model AND model number. (which will accurately determine the REAL year model)
boat builders put "last-years" model engines in new boats all the time. If the drive is a dog-clutch model, it's a 1993 model year engine and drive in a 94 boat.

In any case, heed the advice above. OMC indeed went out of business in 1998....... And they ain't coming back.

Get some more info on the drive. A serial number would be great for one of the guru's here to tell you whether it's worth it or not.
