After all this reading im getting scared on small 4stroke motors. Is 60hp going to be dog on say 16foot smokercraft DC boat. Owned 8hp honda without any issues. If I do choose mercury 4stroke which is better motor 60hp,75hp,90hp. Im use to 2 strokes the scream and rip off line. My finances though are limited and require Old stock REPO boats. Would I be money ahead to drop 2stroke on instead.

The 60 4-stroke will be fine on that boat but a 60, 75, 90 two-stroke will make a totally different boat out of it from performance standpoint -- especially the 75 and 90 three cylinders. These are relatively large displacement engines and are good motors.

I am on my first Mercury fourstroke 2002 115hp efi ,after owning 20 hp evinrude ,then 40 hp johnson , the fourstroke works great for me as i do a lot of trolling , that,s what i like about fourstroke but out of hole a little sluggish but very good on fuel , on a 20ft boat rated for 150hp ,

I have a 60 hp Merc 4 on my 16.5 Alumacraft. You will love the motor...great on gas, quiet and trolls very nice. My boat is loaded up, 70 pound Trolling motor, 3 batteries, 2 anchors, lots of gear. Does 32 with 2 people and 29.5 with 3 people (650 lbs). With three guys it can struggle a bit to get up but it's not terrible. They need to have the right prop. :)
