Lots of 3 HP models with tank on top from 1960 to 1966.( green after that year ) no 5 HP models like that.

Actually, Evinrude and Johnson did make a 5hp, that fits the description except it had a remote tank. However, I'll bet you are thinking of a 5hp built by Gale Division of OMC and sold for a number of years and under a variety of brand names.

Yes they did market a 5 HP non shift model with a remote tank.----Actually the 6 HP block with a " wee " bore 3 HP carburetor on it to limit power.

All i remember was white Johnson, internal tank and no older then 1960 must have been a 4 hp. Think the fuel cap was black.

I say----Must have been a 3 hp.--------They did not market a white 4 hp model with tank on top in 1960.--------Now they did market a green 5 HP up to 1953 I think.----Very popular motor in the day.-----Maybe someone painted it white in the 1960's to make it look " modern " perhaps.

Well, could be a memory thing. That model does not have integral fuel tank, direct drive, nor 360 degree steering. Whatever floats your boat, they used to say.

Johnsons were all white starting with the 59's and ran through 66. In '76 the Stinger & Javelin went white then for '77 the rest of the Johnson line turned white again.

The European 4's had integral tank starting in 1972. North America switched to that style in 1979.

Gale 5's with integral tanks (standard model) I believe were available through at least '57 un-promoted but possibly '59 at the latest.

The integral tank Johnson 5 you may be thinking of was a T-series from 1941 through 1953 (TD,TN & TS; million-sellers), but went back to 1939 (AT, LT, DT) before the restyling & 1937 as a 4.2 horse with the iron block.

The 5-horse Johnson of the 1960s (65-68) were based on the 6-horse powerhead but were under-carbed & had a simple lower unit like the 3. Those never had integral tanks.

Starting in 1981 there were some full-featured 4.5 horse twins, available with integral tank or remote tank. Twist grip & F-N-R. Maybe one of those puppies would suit your needs. Or the 4 of the 90's (4 prop rated honest horses) had a removable tank that mounted on the motor below the pan on the rear of the lower unit. I think they were called the Ultra 4.
