Looking for a 270 transom plate/shield manual

AQ125B/270... I'm looking for a manual that covers the transom plate/shield, steering linkage, tilt, etc. Does anyone know which manual handles that and also where I might find it?

I have the following service manuals but none seem to cover the transom shield:
- 270 Outdrive service manual.pdf
- AQ125,145 A,B Service Manual.pdf
- Along with the lame Clymer and Seloc books

I think I've seen pages from this manual posted by Don S here and here.

To be quite honest, there really isn't that much on the transom shields. Those pictures you've found are from other service manual, some (like the flywheel cover rebuild) comes from an engine manual (V8) another one was a diesel installation manual. For the tilt mechanism, well, there is a paragraph on rebuilding the mechanical part in the 280 manual. The 280 outdrive manual was the last drive to use the mechanical lift. They all went to hydraulic trim and tilt after that.

Bummer. Unfortunately it seems like the same goes for volvopentastore and dougrussell diagrams. they cover the engine side and the outdrive side, but the in-between stuff.

I'm in the midst of a re-power project (here) and I'm considering dropping the outdrive and removing the shield. Mainly just for an inspection, but also a rebolt/reseal as needed. A manual sure would help me know what kinds of seals (etc) I would need to order. Any suggestions?

Edit: Of course I know I will be replacing the o-rings that go on the flywheel cover and locking ring (#804190), but I mean any seals for the shield itself (against the transom).

In the parts diagrams, you have to look under the engine then look for a link to "connecting components"

Under transmissions you will find connecting components for 270

On the left under Misc. Equipment, the first thing on the list is the mechanical lift mechanism.

Ok, based on that, there are no seals between the shield and the transom itself. I guess just some polysulfide-based sealant is enough.

Item #19 in the connecting components is the seal between the transom shield and the transom. No sealer required. Plus there are orings on the bolts #59.

When you take things apart, you will see where all the seals are. I'm not going to go through and find all your seals.

But if you take it off you will probably find the attaching bolts are half corroded thru. When I did mine I took the seal out and let it sit while I was doing all the work. Then I flipped it and stuck it back on, it was still standind pretty proud so I reused it. No leaks yet in 6 years. I did replace the o-rings on the carriage bolts my original holes in the transom were not chamfered and had destroyed the o-rings probably on initial installation.

The bolt o-rings are not cheap either. I did get the galvanized bolts from a local supplier, had to cut down longer ones as the correct length ones were threaded all the way to head.
